Reading Mike Schmoker's Focus
This week I introduced the Effective Lesson template to my social studies and science teachers. The Effective Lesson's components include a clear learning objective, modeling/demonstration, guided practice, checking for understanding/formative assessment, independent practice and closure.
The second component is to include authenic literacy--purposeful and meaningful reading, writing, speaking and listening. In the era of modern technology, these components seem old fashion but I believe, given the evidence, that this strategy will greatly enhance pedagogy and student achievement. I will continue to read and report the evidence during my reseach from October 19-May 27, 2012. Please follow and get involved for my task is to provide an educational experience that will prepare students for college, career and to become a productive citizen.
